Palawan Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez has spearheaded the groundbreaking ceremony of the Busuanga Airport Development Project.
The groundbreaking of the project, also known as the Francisco B. Reyes Airport, was held last March 12.
Also present during the event were Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco as well as 1st District Congressman Franz Josef Alvarez.
Representatives from local governments of Busuanga, Culion, and Linapacan were in attendance.
Gov. Alvarez said in his speech that they expect influx of tourists with the new airport project.
“I’m very confident na dahil sa maayos na paliparan, hindi lang isang milyong turista kada taon ang pupunta rito,” the governor said.
Based on the data from CAAP, there were 321,595 tourists who landed in Busuanga Airport in 2016. In 2017, it increased to 525,044.
