Para handa! Palawan mayors join disaster risk reduction management forum
Several mayors of local government units in Palawan province have attended the recently concluded Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Forum held at the provincial Capitol.
A total of 77 participants were present during the forum, including Mayor Noel Beronio from Araceli, Mayor Jessie Del Prado from Linapacan, Mayor Rommel Dela Torre from Magsaysay, and Mayor Joselito Ayala from Quezon town.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) discussed the proper way of declaring a town under a state of calamity.
“Now we want to make it clear kung ano ba talaga yung mga pwede; ano’ yung mga updates at magbibigay tayo ng tips to go beyond doon sa usual na ginagawa natin so that we can do something doon sa ating mga lapses pagdating sa utilization ng ating fund sa pag-implement ng ating mga DRRMO activities sa ating mga munisipyo,” said Jeremias Alili, head of the PDRRMO.
He also highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness to mitigate the effects of calamity.
“Ang gusto ng ating batas is we have to give more focus on a preparedness mitigation kasi ‘pag doon tayo naka focus it is assumed na later on liliit yung ating response dahil lahat ay prepared na, kokonti na yung ating response activity kasi lahat ay prepared na… educated na yung community o yung buong munisipyo every time na may parating na disaster, malakas man yan maliit nalang yung impact,” he noted.
They participants also held an open forum regarding the problems that the municipalities face during flooding and landslides incidents.
