The Palawan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has approved a resolution asking the Philippine Coconut Authority to support the coconut farmers in the province.

BM Winston G. Arzaga authored the said resolution, which seeks a subsidy for the coconut farmers.

The resolution stated that according a Supreme Court ruling in 2014, the coconut levy funds may be tapped for the coconut farmers.

BM Arzaga said that 3.5 million coconut farmers in the country have been affected by the sudden drop of copra prices.

“Samantala, isa pang panukala na may kinalaman sa industriya ng niyog ang iniakda ni BM Arzaga kasama ang lahat ng Miyembro ng Sangguniang na humihiling sa Philippine Coconut Authority na bigyang-prayoridad ang  pagtatatag ng National Coconut Seedling Nursery and Seed Garden with Hybridization Program sa Buliluyan, Bataraza,” said the province.
