VP Robredo graces 20th year of Naga City People’s Council celebration
Vice President Leni Robredo recently joined the 20th year of Naga City People’s Council.
Robredo recalled that it was during her late husband Jesse Rebredo’s term as Naga mayor when the NCPC was established to give voice to the basic sectors.
“Empowering our people is necessary to encourage them to claim their stake in governance, and in solving the concerns that affect them the most,” the Vice President said.
Robredo said that Jesse held the basic sector close to his heart and that moved him to include them in governing the city.
“This is something that my husband, Jesse, believed in, and it was during his mayorship that the Naga City People’s Council was born,” Robredo said.
“Jesse held the basic sectors close to his heart, and the partnership that this ignited helped our city thrive through the years. I am sure he is as proud as I am of the NCPC,” she added.
As a Camarines Sur representative, Robredo authored a bill that seeks to institutionalize people empowerment in governance.
“As the council marks its 20th year, it faces a bigger challenge of improving itself and sustaining the growth it has made through the years. Happy anniversary to NCPC, and may you continue to inspire more local governments to lead with the people at its core,” the Vice President said.
