CamSur Rep. Bordado says Mayor Bongat is the best mayor in the Philippines
Camarines Sur Rep. Gabriel Bordado, Jr. has paid tribute to outgoing Naga City Mayor John Bongat for leading the city into another local governance award.
Bordado said that it is obvious that Mayor Bongat is “the best mayor in the country.”
The City of Naga just recently bagged Seal of Good Local Governance 2018 from the Department of Interior and Local Government.
“Nowadays (and after the avalanche of awards and citations for NAGA CITY culminating with the SEAL OF GOOD LOCAL GOVERNANCE from the DILG), I always state the obvious–that JOHN GARCIA BONGAT is, at this stage, arguably the best mayor in the country,” Bordado said.
The CamSur solon said that he disagreed with some of the policies of Bongat but admitted that his style of leadership is “impressive” and “effective.”
CI disagreed with him on some policy issues in the past. (I still occasionally do.) Yet, despite such disagreements, I soon found his leadership style to be quite impressive–and effective,” said Bordado.
The solon also shared an excerpt of a paper he wrote while pursuing my graduate studies at the UP College of Public Affairs and Development in 2012.
Bordado descibed Bongat as follows:
“A lawyer by profession, Mayor Bongat is a charismatic leader who has close political and personal ties with the various sectors of the city. Cool and soft-spoken, the mayor nonetheless exudes confidence tempered with humility and compassion (a rare combination for a politician!), making it easy for his subordinates and constituents to approach him whenever there is a problem or issue to thresh out. On many occasions, he has amply demonstrated his intelligence, firmness, courage, integrity, vigor, innovativeness, dependability, exceptional work ethic, trustworthiness, and willingness to listen to other people’s opinions and criticisms. In fact, he continues to strengthen the city’s award-winning participatory system of local governance.”
The solon said that Bongat lived up to meet the standards set by former Naga Mayor and DILG Sec. Jesse Robredo.
“Six years later, the scheme of things remains the same. His illustrious predecessor, MAYOR JESSE ROBREDO (who did set the template for good local governance not only for Naga City but for the entire country), can rest in peace,” said Bordado.
