Masbate Rep. Lanete pushes for specialized satellite hospitals in Visayas, Mindanao
These hospitals, according to the solon, are Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, and the Philippine Heart Center.
“There are no hospitals with these specializations situated in Visayas and Mindanao,” Lanete said.
“Although efficient in treating ordinary sicknesses, most of the hospitals in these areas are not equipped with the proper medical staff and the needed apparatus for treating patients with special needs,” he added.
And because of this, patients travel to Metro Manila just to avail themselves of the services of these hospitals.
“Because of the distance and additional travel costs, most of them don’t make it to these specialized hospitals in time,” said Lanete.
To find a solution to this, the Masbate solon has filed House Bill 3859 or the proposed Satellite Hospitals Act.
“Through this bill, we seek to establish specialized satellite hospitals in Visayas and Mindanao, which will be under the control and supervision of specialized hospitals like the Lung Center of the Philippines, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, and the Philippine Heart Center,” said Lanete.
“The goal is to provide accessibility to more Filipinos all over the country,” he added.
