Ako Bicol Rep. Batocabe’s automatic PhilHealth coverage for PWDs bill hurdles second reading
Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe’s bill which seeks to grant persons with disability (PWDs) with automatic PhilHealth coverage has hurdled the second reading at the House of Representatives.
Batocabe sponsored the bill for its second reading.
“Lusot na sa ikalawang pagbasa ang House Bill 8014 o ang otomatikong coverage sa PhilHealth para sa mga may kapansanan,” Batocabe said.
In his sponsorship message, Batocabe said that it’s about time to have this kind of benefits for PWDs.
“Sa ilalim ng panukala, makakatanggap ng kaparehong benepisyo sa mga senior citizens ang mga kababayang may kapansanan,” the solon said.
He added that PWDs will not shoulder any cent for their membership.
“Wala ding babayaran ang PWD sa pagiging miyembro ng PhilHealth.
Pupondohan sa ilalim ng national health insurance fund ang pangtustos ng PhilHealth sa pagpapagamot ng mga PWDs,” the Ako-Bicol solon said.
The bill provides that “[a]ll persons with disability (PWD) not currently afforded health insurance under any existing category shall be covered by the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP) of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth). The funds necessary for the effective implementation of the Act shall be sourced from the National Health Insurance Fund of PhilHealth earmarked from the proceeds of Republic Act No. 10351, otherwise known as “An Act Restructuring the Tax on Alcohol and Tobacco Products,” in accordance with pertinent laws and regulations.”
