Long processions start today in Naga as Our Lady of Peñafrancia’s fluvial parade nears
Long parades start today in Naga City amid the celebration of the Peñafrancia Festival, Mayor John Bongat said.
“From morning till afternoon, daily till Friday, Sept. 14, before the much awaited procession in honor of Bicol’s Patroness, Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia, via the storied Naga River on Saturday, Sept. 15,” Mayor Bongat said.
The highly anticipated fluvial parade of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia will happen on Saturday.
“Male voyadores from all walks of life and from all over the world will gather in Naga to bring her image back to her home – the Basilica Minore of our Ina – thru the #GrandPeñafranciaFluvialProcession2018, dubbed as Asia’s biggest Marian pilgrimage,” said Mayor Bongat.
The Traslacion 2018 of the Nuestra Señora de Peñafrancia was held last Friday. Thousands of pilgrims joined the said parade.
Mayor Bongat has already declared Sept. 14 as special non-working holiday and declared the suspension of classes in all levels on Sept. 17.
Meanwhile, the mayor has convened earlier this morning the Naga City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NCDRRMC), with the Liga ng mga Barangay to discuss the influx of pilgrims.
Briefing on the weather situation forecast was also held.
