Naga City Mayor John Bongat has issued a proclamation declaring Sept. 14 as special non-working holiday in lieu of the Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

Bongat signed Proclamation 2018-00, pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 654 s. 2013 declaring every Friday immediately preceding the Feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia as a special day in the City of Naga.

The Archdiocese of Caceres’ Fiesta Calendar declared that this year’s celebration of the Feast Day of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia will fall on September 16.

“I, JOHN G. BONGAT, Mayor of the City of Naga, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare 14 September 2018, the Friday immediately preceding the Feast of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia, as Special Non-Working Day in the City of Naga pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 654, series of 2013,” the proclamation read.

Moreover, Bongat also issued a memorandum circular suspending classes on Sept. 17, Monday.

The mayor said that the class suspension aims to “ensure public order, safety and convenience, reduce traffic congestion and minimize the risks involved” in view of the expected influx of pilgrims for Peñafrancia festival.

The Our Lady of Peñafrancia is the patroness of Naga City.
