Catanduanes gov’t provides additional staff for PhilFIDA to speed up implementation of abaca rehab program
The Catanduanes provincial government has hired additional abaca technicians to help the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) in the implementation of the Abaca Rehabilitation Program, upon the orders of Governor Joseph Cua
The governor also gave the PhilFIDA, the agency incharge in the validation of abaca farmers, a month to meet the target farmers for validation for the month of July.
The governor also ordered the Office of the Provincial Agriculture to take over the program in case PhilFIDA fails to meet the target for the month of July as agreed with the PhilFIDA Executive Director Kennedy T. Costales and Mr. Rodel P Tornilla of Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office V.
Moreover, Lorgen Garcia, the Provincial Fiber Officer of PhilFIDA- Catanduanes said that with the additional workers, they will do their best to meet the target farmers.
To recall, l out of the P50 million Abaca Rehab Fund as of June 2018, P49 million of which is expected to be distributed to the abaca farmers for the next semester of this year.
“It was last February that the abaca rehab fund was released. Yet, the Provincial Government was only given one year to distribute the funds,” said the province.
However, the provincial government noted that the validation of the replantation of abaca plants in the typhoon-damaged abaca areas experienced a “sluggish implementation.”
