Ba’t kaunti? Robredo saddened by low voter turnout at CamSur precinct
Vice President Leni Robredo expressed disappointment over the low turnout of voters she observed at the 2018 Barangay Elections in Naga City.
Robredo and daughter Tricia cast their votes at Tabuco Central School on Monday morning, where she noted indications of few voters in their precinct.
“Nakakalungkot na mas kaunti ‘yung interesadong mag-participate sa barangay elections,” she told reporters there.
“Dapat sana ngayon—kasi dalawang sets ‘yung pinagbobotohan, mayroong SK (Sangguniang Kabataan)—dapat ‘yung expectations natin mas marami, mas maraming mga kabataan ‘yung interesado. Pero hindi ko alam kung common ito sa lahat ng voting centers, pero dito sa Tabuco (Central) School, sobrang kaunti ito compared sa usual,” she added.
She noted the importance of instilling on the people the importance of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls, reiterating that the officials elected here are the first ones that communities turn to.
“[I]yong barangay naman, iyong iyong pinakaunang dinudulugan ng tao, kaya mahalaga na pumili tayo ng mga barangay officials na karapat-dapat, na sigurado natin na makakapanilbihan nang maayos,” she said.
