Naga City Mayor John Bongat said that the ASEAN Integration is all about “strengthening” the economic and education fundamentals of each country.

The Naga City is currently hosting the three-day 1st International Conference on ASEAN Education & Cultural Exchange from March 24 to 26.

“ASEAN integration is about not losing sight of our main task of strengthening the economic and education fundamentals of our own country, as we integrate our academic and technical capabilities, our skills and talent, our culture and heritage, with the rest of our ASEAN neighbors,” Mayor Bongat said in his opening speech.

“In the absence of those fundamentals, the much ballyhooed ASEAN integration will remain an elusive dream for the Philippines,” he added.

The event carries the theme “One Vision, One Identity, One Community.”

Meanwhile, foreign visitors and speakers in the event, led by Mohamed Hazli Mohamed Hussain of Dagang Net Technologies in Malaysia, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Department of Education-Naga and the City Government, for the establishment of the first-ever Halāl Hub in Naga.

The said hub “will serve as a dietary standard for local restaurants and food industries in the proper handling of food products to ensure their best quality.”

“The said agreement also aims to promote a strong partnership between ASEAN neighbors, boost food tourism, and improve the city’s food industry,” the City said.
