If there’s anything that Sorsogon Rep. Evelina Escudero hates, it’s wasting food.
Escudero, in particular, wants to stop supermarkets from throwing away their unspoiled food or letting these go to waste, especially since these could still be donated to charity.
On Facebook, she hailed the committee approval of her proposed law that would ban groceries, food establishments and the like from throwing away unspoiled food or from letting these rot.
Under her proposal, the establishments that would do this would be slapped with hefty fines.
The committee approval is only one of the initial steps toward making the measure a law, but we’re sure there won’t be too much objection to the sensible proposal.
As our parents liked to remind us, hindi dapat sinasayang ang grasya!
“Finally, our consolidated bill addressing food surplus has been approved by the Special Committee on Food Security yesterday. My measure, specifically bans supermarkets, food establishments, and other similar businesses from throwing away and spoiling unsold food, thus providing hefty penalties thereof,” Escudero posted on Facebook.
