Calapan Mayor Panaligan opens agri-trade fair as part of city’s 20th founding anniversary celebration
Calapan City Mayor Arnan Panaligan has led the opening of an agri-trade fair dubbed as “KalaKalapan” as part of the 20th founding anniversary of the city.
The opening KalaKalapan Agri-Trade Fair was held at Xentro Mall featuring the products of Calapan and other Oriental Mindoro towns.
“City Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan opened the KalaKalapan Agri-Trade Fair, one of the activities in connection with the 20th Founding Anniversary of the City of Calapan,” Panaligan’s office said.
“The fair showcases the products of Calapan City and other towns of Oriental Mindoro produced by local entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises. The fair is supervised by the City Trade and Industry Department headed by EnP Joey Benter, the Acting City Planning and Development Officer, with the support of the City Agricutural Services Department headed by Ms. Lorelein Sevilla and the Department of Trade and Industry headed by its Provincial Director Arnel Hutalla,” it added.
The word “KalaKalapan” was derived from the words “kalakalan”which means trade and Calapan.
“Literally, it stands for ‘trade in Calapan,'” the office said.
Calapan will celebrate its founding anniversary as a City on March 21.
Then President Fidel V. Ramos signed Republic Act No. 8475 creating the City of Calapan on February 2, 1998.
Mayor Arnan Panaligan, dubbed as the City Builder, was then a municipal mayor.
Within a span of 20 years, Panaligan has served as a Governor for the Oriental Mindoro province for nine years from 2004 to 2013. He was elected as the city mayor anew in 2013.
