Palawan gov’t inks agreement with Malampaya Foudation on marine conservation
The Provincial Government of Palawan has inked a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on the implementation of Integrated Coastal and Marine Resources Management Programme in northern Palawan.
The MOA was signed by the provoncial government, Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and Malampaya Foundation Inc. yesterday at the Capitol.
Karen Agabin, executive director ng Malampaya Foundation Inc. Board, said that the signing was just a renewal of the MOA inked in 2015, which aims to intensify marine conversation programs in Palawan.
“Ang adhikain ng MOA ay community-based kung kaya malaki umano ang maitutulong ng mga Information, Education at Communication o IEC campaigns sa mga komunidad katuwang ang PCSD,” said the province.
“Dagdag pa ni Bb. Agabin, ayon sa kanilang pagsusuri ay nakitang mula taong 2013 hanggang taong 2017 ay lumago ng mula 25% hanggang 64% ang mga naipanumbalik na reef ecosystem at mas bumuti rin umano ang produksyon ng isda sa pamamagitan ng mas maayos na pamamahala sa mga marine protected area sa lalawigan,” it added.
The said MOA will expire in 2021.
Present during the signing were PCSD Executive Director Nelson Devanadera, Ceasar Sammy Magbanua represenring Gov. Jose Ch. Alvarez and officials Malampaya Foundation, Inc. namely, Rufino Bomasang, chairman of the board; Belinda Racela, president; Rolando Paulino, Jr., vice-president; Agabin, executive director; Armin Villamonte, corporate director, and Ana Marcos, trustee of Malampaya Foundation Inc.
