The Provincial Board of Palawan is seeking for a P500 monthly financial assistance for persons with disability (PWDs).

The Provincial Board has already referred the proposed measure seeking to grant PWDs additional assistance to the Committee on Appropriations for further deliberations.

“Sa ordinansang inakda ni Board Member Sharon Q. Abiog-Onda , iminungkahi ang paglalaan ng halagang limang daang piso bilang buwanang suportang-pinansyal sa mga may kapansanan sa buong lalawigan ng Palawan,” the province said.

The said proposal is pursuant to the Republic Act 7277 or Magna Carta for Disabled Persons. Latest data show that the Palawan has around 7,000 PWDs.

“Ang mungkahing tulong-pinansyal ay magagamit ng mga may kapansanan sa kanilang mga pangunahing pangangailangan katulad ng pagkain at pagpapagamot,” the province said

‘Nakasaad sa ordinansa ang labing pitong klasipikasyon kung saan ay mapapabilang ang mga benepisyaryo ng nasabing ordinansa,” it added.

The classifications are:

• Abandoned
• Abused
• Disability
• Handicap
• Independent living
• Indigent
• Impairment
• Disabled gifted
• Fits/seizures
• Marginalized disabled person
• Mental disability
• Neglected
• Orthopedically handicapped
• Persons with behavioral problems
• Person with disability
• Person with hearing impairment
• Persons with visual impairment

Under the proposal, each Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) will be tasked to verify and monitor the PWDs and their names will be submitted to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO).

“Ang mga nasa talaan ay magkakaroon ng Identification Card at kinakailangang sila ay lehitimong residente ng lalawigan,” the province said.
