Governor Bichara Cup returns for semis games after being halted by Mayon eruption

Feb 21, 2018 @ 14:59

After hitting a snag due to the eruption activities of Mt. Mayon, the Governor’s Cup has resumed for the semifinals.

The Season 19 of Governor Al Francis Bichara Cup for volleyball and basketball games and the 1st Invitational Regional Inter-Secondary and Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championship has officially returned for the semis last Friday.

“The Governor’s Cup Season 19’s Semi Final games started Friday, February 16, 2018 and the Regional Basketball Championship will start on March 3, 2018 (Saturday) along with the Championship that will be held on the afternoon of March 4, 2018,” the province said.

The sports meet has been put on hold at the onset of this year upon the declaration of Alert Level 4 on Mayon, and was eventually prolonged as the Albay Astrodome is being utilized for stockpiling and repacking of relief goods.

“But according to PHILVOLCS, Mt. Mayon shows signal of calming down as it spews white smokes which contributes to the reason on the resumption of the games,” said the province.

“The impending end on classes also made the committees decide that there is an urgent need to start the Semi-Final games,” it added.

However, the province was forced to find other venues for the games.”The venues will be posted along the Schedule of the Games.”

Alert Level 4 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano.
