Calapan City turns over irrigation project to farmer beneficiaries
The City of Calapan has turned over a communal irrigation project to irrigators association composed of farmer beneficiaries under the city’s AKAP or Angat Kabuhayan sa Agrikultura Program.
Mayor Arnan Panaligan led the turn over ceremony yesterday together with members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod Hon.Charles Pansoy, SP Committee Chair on Agriculture, Hon. Rafael Panaligan Jr., Hon. Lorybelle Tanyag-Panaligan at Hon. Marian Tagupa-Brucal.
The AKAP is the flagship program of Panaligan administration for Agriculture.
“This irrigation project in Bgy. Canubing 1 will irrigate more than 180 hectares of rice fields in Bgys. Canubing 1 and Baruyan with Longos River as the source of water,” the city said.
The project costs P1.5 milliob and was funded by the City Government of Calapan in coordination with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
“Meron itong dalawang 7 hp engine na may kapasidad an masuplayan ng tubig ang may 180 hektaryang palayan na dadaloy sa irrigation canal na ipinatayo ng NIA- BBRIS o Baco-Bucayao River Irrigation System,” the city said.
“Pangunahing makikinabang sa naturang proyekto ang mga magsasaka na miyembro ng Malamig, Canubing, Baruyan at Tabon-tabon (MACABATA) Irrigators Association,” it added.
