Palawan Gov. Alvarez inks deal to establish Philippine Marine Turtle Protected Area Network

Palawan Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez has signed a memorandum of agreement today to establish a Philippine Marine Turtle Protected Area Network.

The network includes El Nido-Taytay Managed Resource Protected Area and Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in the province.

“Layon nito na magkaroon ng ligtas na kanlungan ang mga pawikan sa bahagi ng Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape,” the province said.

“Matatandaan na ang dalawang nabanggit na protected area ng Palawan ay nakapaloob sa ilalim ng National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act,” it added.

The signing was witnessed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Felizardo Cayatoc, Palawan Councial for Sustainable Development Staff Executive Director Nelson P. Devanadera and representatives from GIZ-Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape Project and Conservation International.
