Umali: No SC justice to appear in Tuesday’s impeachment hearing
No Supreme Court justice is expected to appear in tomorrow’s impeachment hearing against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, as the justices have opted to wait until the court promulgates its earlier decision to allow them to take part in the proceeding.
Committee on justice chairman Rey Umali said Associate Justices Francis Jardeleza and Noel Tijam, as well as Teresita de Castro, who already appeared in last week’s impeachment hearing, will likely be present in the December 11 hearing.
He urged the Supreme Court en banc to promulgate its decision allowing the justices and court officials to attend the hearing.
Tuesday’s hearing will discuss complainant Larry Gadon’s allegation that Sereno had unduly delayed the retirement benefits of justices and judges.
Supreme Court administrator Midas Marquez has been invited to make a second appearance at the hearing, along with three other Supreme Court personnel.
