Lagman to justice panel: You’re supposed to weigh evidence, not build up case vs Sereno
Albay first-district Rep. Edcel Lagman said it’s not the responsibility of the House of Representatives committee on justice to “plug the gaping loopholes” in the impeachment complaint of Larry Gadon against Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.
“The role of the House Committee on Justice is to weigh the evidence, not to gather evidence to plug the gaping loopholes in the Gadon impeachment complaint against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno,” he said.
Lagman, a leader of the Magnificent 7 group, chided Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez for saying the committee will “continue gathering evidence” because the Chief Justice “refuses to resign.”
“The committee’s duty is to determine probable cause principally based on the complaint and evidence adduced by Gadon, and not to build up the case for Gadon,” he said.
“The committee must act as an impartial investigator, not an intrepid sleuth,” Lagman said.
