Umali to Sereno spokespersons: We’re not a ‘dog and pony show’
The chairman of the House of Representatives committee on justice took exception to statements by the spokespersons of Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno branding the impeachment proceeding against her as a “dog and pony show.”
Oriental Mindoro second-district Rep. Rey Umali cited a news report quoting Sereno spokespersons Joshua Santiago and Aldwin Salumbides as saying that.
“In all of these pronouncements, they are painting these proceedings as a dog and pony show,” he said.
“Please respect this impeachment committee lest we be forced to use the coercive powers of this committee and all other powers vested in the House of Representatives,” Umali said.
“We are trying our darnedest best to be fair. If you feel this committee has been unfair to your client, keep it to yourselves or discuss it among yourselves,” he said.
