Lagman expects impeachment complaint vs Bautista to be junked
Albay first-district Rep. Edcel Lagman said he expects the impeachment complaint filed by Bautista complaint to be dismissed for insufficiency in form.
He said “that should be the ultimate result, if we are to follow an immediate precedent,” he said, referring to one of the two impeachment complaints against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, which was junked because of defective verification.
“If we follow the decision of the committee on justice with respect to finding the complaint filed by Atty. Eligio Mallari and Dante Jimenez not be sufficient in substance, the rule should be filed with respect to a similar verification of Jacinto Paras and Ferdinand Topacio,” Lagman said.
He said the “substitute verification” filed by Paras and Topacio on September 13 should not be accepted by the committee chaired by Oriental Mindoro second-district Rep. Reynaldo Umali.
That’s why we said we’ll have to rely on the original verification as referred to the committee,” Lagman said.
