Panic time? Here’s how much NFA rice buffer stock is left in Bicol
Is it time for politikos in Bicol to push the panic button?
The National Food Authority (NFA) in Region V bared on Sunday, May 21 that it only has four days worth of buffer stock of rice left.
NFA-Region V information officer, Beth Jacob, told Bicol Standard that there remains only 145,980 bags of rice for the six provinces of Bicol.
“We just pray and hope that no calamity will hit our region,” Jacob was quoted as saying, adding that it’s the first time that Bicol had such a low buffer stock.
The required minimum buffer stock is 15 days for normal months and 30 days for the so-called lean months. It is still technically harvest season for palay or rice grain.
The same report said that Camarines Sur, Catanduanes and Masbate are the top three consumers of NFA rice in Bicol.
