Batocabe’s two words for Alejano: Valiant, principled
At least one member of the Supermajority in the House of Representatives (HOR) gave opposition solon Magdalo Party-List Rep. Gary Alejano a pat on the back for filing the now-junked impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte.
AKO-Bicol Party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe also thinks that the defeat suffered by Alejano’s complaint at the hands of the Committee on Justice wasn’t a traumatic experience for the latter, who just happens to be an ex-Marine.
“I do not think it is traumatic but a valiant and principled fight by Cong Alejano. He knows he has no numbers and up against a popular president,” Batocabe said Tuesday, May 16.
“But more than anything else, yesterday’s exercise strenghtens the impeachment process as enshrined by the Constitution,” he added.
The Justice Committee chucked out Alejano’s complaint for insufficiency of substance during a hearing Monday.
During the proceedings, pro-administration lawmakers pounced on Alejano’s supposed lack of “personal knowledge” on the details contained in his complaint. He was also faulted for not presenting authentic records to back up the document.
