Leni: I was asked to be the ‘voice of the voiceless’

Vice President Leni Robredo said Thursday (March 23) that she has been asked to serve as the “voice of the voiceless” as far as the victims of the current wave of violence in the country is concerned.

Robredo, the interim chairperson of the Liberal Party (LP), said she received this request from members of the urban poor sector.

Dito po ata nagsimula ang aking problema,” she said in a speech in her office in Quezon City.

Robredo said these were the same persons who brought to her their personal experiences on extra judicial killings and human rights violations.

Na kailangan sana sila nagbibigay sa atin ng proteksyon,” she said, taking a dig at the current administration.

“Mahirap po yung kalagayan. Sinubukan po nating lumapit, humingi ng tulong. Pero hindi niya ganun kadali,” she further said.

Robredo has been a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration the past few months.
