Away na ba? Lagman belies Quimbo’s claim that LP won’t support Duterte impeachment
Did a Liberal Party (LP) member in the “authentic minority” of the House of Representatives (HOR) just accuse an LP member in the Supermajority of lying about party matters?
Opposition politiko Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman on Wednesday (March 22) clarified that the LP leadership has yet to call its members in the HOR and Senate for a meeting regarding the impeachment complaint filed last week against President Rodrigo Duterte.
This, after Deputy Speaker Miro Quimbo, an LP stalwart in the pro-administration Supermajority, claimed Tuesday that the LP politikos in the Lower Chamber won’t be backing the impeachment raps against the Chief Executive.
“In particular, the LP contingent in the authentic minority has not been consulted either individually or collectively on Quimbo’s statement that the LPs in the House are not supporting the impeachment complaint against Duterte,” Lagman said.
Lagman is part of the “Magnificent 7,” or the so-called authentic minority.
Of the 32 LP members in the HOR, five, including Lagman, are in the Magnificent 7. They’ve been consistently critical of the Duterte administration.
Meanwhile, the 27 other LP politikos in the Supermajority more or less toe the line with the PDP-Laban, which is the ruling party. It is chaired by Duterte.
Incidentally, the congressman who filed the impeachment complaint, Gary Alejano of Magdalo party-list, belongs to the Magnificent 7.
