Supalpal! Imperial-led Albay Council halts Daraga LGU from airing live cockfights
The Albay Provincial Government has effectively blocked a municipal ordinance that would have allowed Daraga residents to watch live telecast of ongoing cockfights in the town.
A Bicol Standard report Monday (March 20) said the Provincial Council declared “invalid and inoperative” Municipal Ordinance No. 04-2017 of the Municipality of Daraga.
Albay Vice Gov. Harold Imperial, who presides over the Council, believes that granting approval to the local government unit’s (LGU) ordinance is in violation of existing laws and regulations in the country.
The ordinance is titled, “An Ordinance authorizing the holding of amusement cockfighting thru the live hook-up of cockfight from TV on-line providers in different licensed cockpit arena in this municipality, regulating the issuance of special permit and for other purposes.”
In declaring the ordinance’s invalidity, the Council reckoned that Daraga town has no legal basis in authorizing the telecast of live cockfights. #
