‘Impossible’ for impeachment raps to gain traction, says Batocabe
A snowball’s chance in hell.
That’s how much chance AKO-Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe is giving the impeachment complaint filed against President Rodrigo Duterte at the House of Representatives (HOR).
“An impeachment is a political proceeding. In effect, it is a numbers game. So long as a president has the support of Congress and is popular among our people, it is impossible for an impeachment complaint to progress,” Batocabe said.
On Wednesday, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano filed a 16-page impeachment complaint against Duterte.
Alejano argued that the Chief Executive should be ousted based on five grounds: culpable violation of the Constitution, betrayal of public trust, bribery, graft and high crimes.
“I see it more as a venue to ventilate issues against the President and to possibly erode his political base,” Batocabe further said of the impeachment raps.
The HOR is chockfull of Duterte allies, which include the Bicolano politiko.
