The plot thickens: P100-M shabu seized from Virac lab last November

Feb 26, 2017 @ 13:18

Was it supposed to be a secret?

Members of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs who conducted a public hearing in Virac, Catanduanes only learned last February 23 that some P100 million worth of crystalline shabu was seized from the local mega drug lab last November.

“The local PNP did not declare the recovery of 20 kilos of shabu worth P100 million during the raid. They only declared 792 grams. It is only now, during the hearing, that this detail surfaced,” said Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Barbers, chairman of the Committee.

The hearing was held at the Catanduanes State University auditorium nearly three months after the discovery of the Virac drug lab, which has brought great shame to the province.

Also present in the hearing were Rep. Cesar Sarmiento of Catanduanes and AKO Bicol party-list Rep. Rodel Batocabe.

Authorities raided the drug facility on November 26. It reportedly held state-of-the-art drug-making equipment.

The discovery about the P100 million worth of seized drugs came amid persisting allegations that the drug lab was being “protected” by local officials. #
