It’s final: Bichara Cup games resume on Valentine’s Day
It will be a sporty kind of Valentine’s Day in Albay next month.
This, after the Provincial Government officially pencilled the resumption of the Gov. Al Bichara Cup Season 18 on February 14.
“Save this date: February 14 at Albay Astrodome, the Gov. Al Bichara’s Cup Season 18 returns for nonstop hardcourt actions (sic) in Basketball, Volleyball and Table Tennis, plus the intense Scrabble and Chess Games,” read an announcement on the Albay government’s Facebook page Wednesday (January 11).
Kicked off last November, the Bichara Cup was supposed to run through December. However, the Albay Astrodome which was utilized for the games was turned into an evacuation center following the onslaught of typhoon “Nina” on Christmas weekend.
“The tournament should have been re-scheduled on January 4-12, however, it was postponed due to TS ‘Nina’ operations in which the Albay Astrodome is still used as a big stockroom for relief goods.
The annual sports event was then re-scheduled on January 14 to 20, but this will put it in conflict with the ongoing Palarong Bicol and collegiate meets.
“Hence, to give our players a breather and concentration on their respective games in the Palarong Bicol and SCUAA Meet, the Gov. Al Bichara’s Cup Season 18 championship games will resume after the Bicol Meet which will be held in Legazpi City from February 5 to 11,” the announcement read.
