Lagman on #LeniLeaks: Harmless naman yan
A harmless and honest expression of opinion.
That’s how Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman described the leaked email conversations from people supposedly close to Vice President Leni Robredo even as they were said to be critical against President Rodrigo Duterte.
“A plain reading of the ‘suspected’ email conversations cited by Malacañang does not manifest a design to destabilize the government or oust President Duterte,” Lagman said in a statement Monday, January 9.
“The emails are in exercise of the freedom of expression and are protected by the Bill of Rights as an essential component of democratic space,” added Lagman, who is part of the opposition faction in the House of Representatives (HOR).
“While some of the emails may suggest the resignation of Duterte for an erratic decision favoring the burial of the late dictator Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani and for failure to solve the drug menace, they express honest opinions and do not recommend any radical action or upheaval to pre-terminate Duterte’s incumbency,” he further explained.
Finally, the politiko noted that the current administration may be just be trying to “censure critical dissent” with its handling of the #LeniLeaks issue.
“If the President’s men believe that Duterte is rendering fealty to his mandate, then their phobia of his impending ouster is grossly misplaced and is conveniently used as a pretext to discourage and censure critical dissent.”
