Lagman’s MMK versus Apo Ferdie: “12 Cardinal Sin’s of Marcos”
Rep. Edcel C. Lagman today firmly reiterated his stand against the planned interment of the remains of the late President Ferdinand Marcos at the Libingan ng Bayani.
The Bicolano solon pointed out what he called the 12 cardinal sins of the former president which “nullifies” the privilege of being laid to rest at the government-run cemetery.
According to Lagman, Marcos does not deserve to be buried in the Libingan ng mga Bayani for declaring Martial Law which “padlocked” Congress, “emasculated” the judiciary, and wantonly trampled upon the rights of the country’s citizenry.
The late strongman also suppressed freedom of expression and the press, took over private enterprises and public utilities, allowed cronies to take over them to “criminally enrich themselves,” and amassed ill-gotten wealth while plundering the economy which incurred negative GDP growth during his reign.
If Marcos’ being a soldier and tenure as president of the Philippines qualifies his burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Lagman contends that these were “dwarfed and nullified” by his “cardinal sins” against the people.
“He was ousted as a tyrant by people power and thus, dishonorably discharged by popular action, while the Supreme Court barred his return to the Philippines,” the Bicolano solon said, “how can these things be outweighed by his so-called qualifications?”
